This book describes cases of people who suffered from back pains, underwent surgery and were left paralyzed, compelled to spend the rest of their lives on a wheelchair. It also provides facts and information regarding stress factors, but most importantly, it highlights the fact that anatomical anomalies seldom cause pain. Furthermore, a description of disorders such as, spondiloarthritis, spondilolisthesis, disc space narrowing, cervical syndrome, disc herniation, scoliosis, carpal tunnel syndrome, osphyalgia, bone spurs (osteophytes), muscular convulsions, the relationship between age and spinal cord, as well as psychological traumas, is also included.

The writer adduces Dr. Umber Rossomov's (Professor of Medicine at the University of Miami) opinion, according to whom, cases of back pain caused by disc herniation and demand surgery do not exceed 2%.

The reader is informed on back pain symptoms that he/she may have felt or heard of, and finds out that surgery is not always necessary. Besides, the latter is also an issue that troubles the Social Services of the U.S., as they have come to the realisation that the amount of money spent within a year on mental implants, only for cases of spondylodeses, comes up to 2, 5 billion dollars; a fact which leads to the conclusion that "many technological innovations benefit the companies' shareholders, instead of the patients".
