NIKOS MERTZOS
He was born in Nymfaion, Florina. Lawyer, journalist and author of 15 books. He played a leading part in the national struggles over Cyprus, Macedonia and Thrace. Editor in chief since 1966 in newspapers, magazines, in radio stations, in TV channels and in the French News Agency.
He is reputed for his features, political articles and political analyses. He has traveled all over the world on journal assignments. Specialist on Balkan issues. Close associate to Konstantinos G. Karamanlis and to Evangelos Averof-Tositsas, counselor to the Prime Minister, Konstantinos Mitsotakis, on national issues during the years 1990-1993. He has been chief director of the newspaper Hellinikos Vorras and of the magazine Makedoniki Zoi. Member of the Macedonian Studies Association, of the Macedonian Struggle Museum, and the Macedonian Committee.
He has been honoured by the Church, the Armed Forces, Municipalities and organizations, the Cypriot Government, EOKA, the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, the University of Macedonia and by the municipalities of Toronto and Scarborough in Canada. He is president of the Nymfaio County.
Since 2006 he is the president of the Society for Macedonian Studies.
