In 1994, an ancient cemetery was located at Melissia Aeginiou in Northern Pieria, 2 km northwest of ancient Methoni and 8 km northwest of ancient Pydna.
It belonged to a settlement that was founded after the destruction of ancient Methoni by Philip the Second in 354 B.C.
The vessels presented in this study come from the 57 tombs of this cemetery, dating between 354 B.C. and early second century B.C., and reveal the preferences of the settlement's inhabitants for grave goods during that era, as well as the local pottery workshops' gradual detachment from Attic tradition and their way towards shaping a physiognomy of their own.
