The Oblong Tumulus, one of the biggest burial tombs in the cemetery of Aegae, the first capital of the Macedonians, unfolds its archeological secrets.
Three tombs, which are designated by circular enclosures and covered by a lengthy burial hill-the barrier, for the Ancient Greeks, between life and death. Even though the graves were robbed in antiquity, the findings of the pyres place the dead amongst the Nobles of the Macedonian kingdom: excellent weapons, gilt crowns, reins from horse sacrifices, burial vessels with red and blue decorations. The imposing burial monument, located at the foothills of Mount Pieria, and once visible from the city, is an outright indication of the family's social status.
